Breast MRI

Breast MRI

Breast MRI is an advanced form of non-invasive diagnostic imaging that uses a strong magnet, radio waves and a computer to produce very clear pictures of the breast. Each MRI produces hundreds of pictures or "images" in all three directions (side-to-side, top-to-bottom, front-to-back) without the use of radiation, performing surgery or the need to flatten the breasts (as in a mammogram). These images are then reviewed and interpreted by a radiologist. It is important to be aware that breast MRI does not replace mammograms and ultrasounds, but rather an additional tool for evaluating breast disease.
